The 2019 Shane Broderick Balanced Man Scholarship application is now open and will be open until Friday, October 25that 11:59 PM.
The Balanced Man Scholarship has been a tradition throughout Sigma Phi Epsilon chapters across the country since 1990, when it began at the Cincinnati Chapter, as a way to attract men of Sound Mind and Sound Body, while rewarding them for espousing the ideals of the Fraternity. The goal of the scholarship is to award 3 freshman male students who embody the three virtues and pillars of Sigma Phi Epsilon: virtue, diligence, and brotherly love. The recipients of the Balanced Man Scholarship must also demonstrate that they are leaders amongst their peers, excel in the classroom, and care for their community.
Our chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon has continued this tradition since it began, and we have renamed the Balanced Man Scholarship to “The Shane Broderick Balanced Man Scholarship” in 2017 after our late brother, Shane.
To this day, our chapter believes that Shane exemplified and embodied what it meant to be a balanced man both in the classroom and in the community. It important to us to award 3 freshman male student with the scholarship who uphold the virtues of Sigma Phi Epsilon and honor Shane Broderick as he lived out what it meant to be a balanced man.
Our Balanced Man Scholarship Committee will work to award the scholarship as freshman will go through a couple rounds of interviews with the scholarship finalists being announced at chapter later on this semester.
The Creighton University Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon is honored and privileged to be continuing this great tradition in honor of our late brother, Shane.
