The Nebraska Delta chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon was founded at Creighton University in the winter of 1986. For nearly four decades, our fraternity has grown into one of the most active and awarded organizations on campus. Grounded in our cardinal principles—virtue, diligence, and brotherly love—we strive to develop balanced men through a commitment to service, leadership, and authentic brotherhood.
Philanthropy
Our virtue can be seen in our devotion to philanthropy, both our own and that of other organizations. In the spring, our chapter orchestrates one of the largest annual road races in Omaha, the Run with a Heart. For 32 years, we have put on this 5K in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands. This year's race is partnered with Alpha Phi and will be benefitting Special Olympics Nebraska and WomenHeart.
Our other philanthropic cornerstones are the annual Philanthropy football and basketball games, in which we compete with Phi Delta Theta for charity. We pride ourselves on strong philanthropy events but also embody virtue in our weekly bible study held on campus and our Saturday service at the Heart Ministry Center, alongside Habitat for Humanity and Turkey drive involvement. In 2025, we were honored to be named the Heart Ministry Center's Volunteers of the Year and won the FSL Award for Excellence in Philanthropy and Service.
Academics and Member Development
We are diligent in the emphasis we place on academics. We understand that fundamentally we are students, and so we constantly encourage productive educational schedules in our members. We are new recipients of Sig Ep Learning Community Accreditation, a huge milestone for our chapter, and have been improving our study hall and in-house tutoring resources constantly.
Our new members begin in the Sigma phase of our four-part Balanced Man Program, learning about fraternalism, ethics, leadership, and career discernment. As they progress through Phi, Epsilon, and Brother Mentor stages, they grow in leadership, service, and professionalism—supported by student panels, curated curriculum, and alumni mentorship. The diligence that is stimulated through our program often remains with a new member as he enters other organizations on Creighton's campus. This is proving quite evident as a number of Sig Eps hold leadership roles on campus, ranging from CUBAC Presidents and executives to past Student Body Presidents. We currently have the highest representation within our IFC. Each year, Sig Eps are leaders in many clubs, University Committees, government organizations, and varsity sports.
Events and Fun
A number of activities, including intramural athletics, brotherhood events, and our balanced man program enhance our bond of brotherly love. Athletics provide a way for brothers to unite in competition (Sigma Phi Epsilon traditionally has intramural teams that place high in the all-university ranking). Additionally, the brothers often come together for brotherhood events like wiffleball and BBQs, and the personal growth that is experienced during the balanced man program is unparalleled.
In addition to following our cardinal principles, Sig Ep promotes an occasional release from a demanding college education by hosting theme date parties, formals, and alumni events. Sig Ep can provide one with all aspects of college life. It is under this premise that we develop balanced men.
As we approach our 40th anniversary at Creighton, we reflect on a chapter defined by virtue, diligence, and brotherly love—values that continue to drive us in scholarship, service, and leadership. Sigma Phi Epsilon is only as strong as its members, and at Nebraska Delta, those men are leaving a legacy built to last.
